150 senior citizens attend health awareness program

150 senior citizens attended a culture-cum-health awareness program at Duplex Community Hall, Manimajra on Sunday. The event was organized by Senior Citizens Welfare Association, with association of Ojas Super Speciality Hospital, Panchkula, Sushma Builders and Gurukul Gobal School.

VK Sharma, IG (Retd) was chief guest during occasion whereas Praveen Setya , MD of Gurukul Global school were the guest of honor. Among others, RK Garg , president of Seconds Inning Association, KK Sharda , chairman of Gandhi Smarak, Prem Vij a socialite and Deepak Dhiman , northern regional editor of Dainik Bhaskar were also presented .

During occasion, Dr Sunny Virdi , pulmonologist from Ojas Hospital shared his views on breathing issues in elderly people . Addressing CME, Dr. Sunny Virdi consultant-Pulmonary said that sleep related problems like excessive snoring lead into severe breathing issues during sleep which are called Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)  and Central sleep apnea (CSA) . These are the diseases which occur in accordance with other disorders such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, kidney disease, stroke etc.

Dr. Suresh Singla senior  orthopaedic surgeon talked about new technological developments for knee replacement and developed on osteoporosis issues , causes and remedies .

 

Ojas Hospital also orgnised a medical camp where senior citizens were examined for BP, sugar level and BMI test.

 

Dr Ved Prakash Nagpal, president of association appealed to senior citizens to donate old cloths to needy and poor and also suggested to make a core team for visits to the senior citizens .

 

S.C.Luthra , vice president shared his concern over the issues of safety of senior citizens . He suggested to keep a vigil by local police beats and regular meetings with senior citizens who are living alone and feeling unsafe .

RK Garg urged upon to form a task force of ten senior citizens for involvement in the development and welfare of tricity.
