“Physical inactivity is particularly high among people who work in corporate settings as their jobs revolve around desks and computers. Even corporate companies must promote activity and sports on their campuses as a matter of policy to encourage good health among their employees. It will not just improve fitness levels of their workforce but also increase their productivity”, said, Mr. Ritesh Mittal, GM Operations, Paras Bliss and Paras Hospital, Panchkula.

Dr. Ashish Arora, Consultant Internal Medicine, said, Physical inactivity is emerging as a leading risk factor for lifestyle diseases today. Physical inactivity is responsible for increased risk of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, as well as several forms of cancer. In fact, some experts are calling sitting the ‘new smoking’ given the ill effects it is having on this generation’s health. With near total mechanization of all our jobs, including household chores our levels of physical activity have drastically come down in recent years. This loss has to be compensated by adopting active lifestyles that include sporting activities, running, walking and yoga.
