Month-Long Petroleum Conservation Drive Ends

The month-long campaign to bring awareness among  citizens about the acute need for petroleum conservation culminated at Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration, Sector 26 here.

Manvesh Singh Sidhu, IAS, Secretary Health and Family Welfare, Government of Punjab was the chief guest at the valedictory function of Saksham 2020 (Sanrakshan Kshamta Mahotsav). Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas through PCRA (Petroleum Conservation Research Association) and Oil PSUs have been conducting fuel conservation drive.

While addressing the gathering, Sidhu emphasized that, “Fuel conservation is very important to save the environment, which will save our money, environment and health.” He said, for conservation what is required is conviction, which can help us conserve natural resources. He urged the children, who were present in the auditorium to first understand the values and importance of fuel and environment to save all these natural resources.

Shalabh Raj Gupta, State Level Coordinator (Oil Industry), U.T. Chandigarh & Chief Regional Manager (Retail), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd, Chandigarh Regional Office thanked the chief guest  and other senior dignitaries for having spared time to grace the occasion and gave details of various activities organized by Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited in Chandigarh and  successfully completed Saksham 2020.

Among other prominent dignitaries who were present included, Lalit Bhatt, Chief General Manager, Marketing, GAIL India Ltd; Supriyo Ghoshal, General Manager (Lubes), IOCL, Chandigarh on behalf of State level Coordinator (Oil Industry) Punjab; Neeraj Batra, Chief Manager Retail Initiative, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd, Chandigarh and Sanjeev Verma, Additional Director, Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA), Chandigarh.

 

Officers from all oil companies, LPG distributors of Chandigarh, retail outlet dealers of Chandigarh, lube Distributors of Chandigarh, schoolchildren, participants from transport sector, among others were present on the occasion.

 

During the one month campaign, various activities were conducted in Chandigarh & various districts of Punjab. These included campaigns on fuel conservation in schools, colleges and public places through debate, group talk, street plays, and wall painting competitions. Campaigns on fuel conservation conducted through workshops in engineering colleges and industrial sectors.

Group talks on oil and gas conservation in resident welfare associations, housing societies and colonies were organized. In addition, the month-long campaign also undertook  online pledge on fuel conservation, fuel efficient driving contests, LPG panchayats covering safety and conservation tips, and training of LPG delivery boys on LPG saving tips.

During the valedictory function, prizes were given to Essay Writing Winners and Best Depot Awards of Rs. 50,000 went to CTU, Chandigarh and PUNBUS, Punjab.
