Experts emphasize on addressing challenges to elevate Ayurveda on the global stage

Chandigarh, In a significant step towards bridging traditional knowledge with contemporary healthcare, Shri Dhanwantry Ayurveda College & Hospital kicks off two day long National Symposium – Samvaya 2025 in collaboration with Central Council for Research in Ayurveda Sciences (CCRAS) at its campus in Sector 46 on Monday.  The event brought together leading Ayurveda experts, practitioners, researchers and academicians who engaged in a spirited deliberation on the future of Ayurveda in India’s rapidly evolving healthcare landscape.

The first session of the day was presided by Ajay Chagti (IAS), Secretary, Health, UT Administration in the presence of Dr Naresh Mittal, General Secretary, Shri Dhanwantry Educational Society and Dr Sumit Srivastava, College Principal. Chagti emphasized the importance of integrating Ayurveda with modern medical systems to offer holistic and preventive care. In his address, he said, “Ayurveda has its rich legacy and time-tested principles which holds immense potential. However, it must adapt and innovate to meet today’s clinical demands and scientific rigor.”

In his address, Dr. Dulal Panda, Director of NIPER, emphasized that for Ayurveda to gain global acceptance, there must be a strong focus on scientific validation, robust quality control, and standardized formulations. He stated that only when Ayurvedic practices and products are backed by rigorous research and consistency can they achieve wider credibility and meaningful integration into mainstream healthcare systems worldwide.

Present on the occasion Dr N Shrikant, Deputy Director, CCRAS, New Delhi also urged for urgent need to develop a structured mechanism that drives Ayurveda through focused research, innovation and policy support with a coordinated effort involving academia, industry and regulatory bodies.

Vandana Siroha, Director, Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth under the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India stressed upon that Ayurveda must foster synergy between ancient wisdom and modern research through collaborative and structured efforts.

Dr Mittal reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to fostering dialogue and innovation in Ayurvedic education.

The seminar also marked the launch of J-TACAM, a pioneering journal reflecting the ethos of “One Earth, One Health.” It aims to bridge Ayurvedic wisdom with modern science to promote holistic well-being and preventive healthcare.

Later in the day, the  plenary sessions brought experts from diverse fields to deliberate on their topics. Dr. Mahendra Bishnoi, Scientist F, BRIC-National Agri-Food and Biomanufacturing Institute (NABI), Mohali addressed the theme of “Diet, Nutrition, and Public Health,” focusing on receptor pharmacology. Dr. Prasad V. Bharatam, Professor of Medicinal Chemistry, NIPER, Mohali presented on “Pharmacoinformatics,” highlighting computational tools in drug discovery. Prof. Sanjay Jachak, Professor, Department of Natural Product, NIPER, Mohali spoke on “Pharmacognosy and Natural Products,” emphasizing the significance of natural compounds in medicine. Dr. Baheti Ramjivan Sandipkumar, Research Officer, Central Ayurveda Research Institute, Patiala provided updates on Ayurveda research through CCRAS.

Earlier on Sunday’s night, the event was also marked by Alumni meet which was well attended by the pass out from 2008 batch onwards.
The seminar will conclude on Tuesday.
