Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi Orders Drain-Wise Committees to Monitor Pollution in Yamuna
Haryana Reports Major Progress in Yamuna Pollution Control Efforts
Haryana Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi reviewed the progress in the ongoing efforts to clean the Yamuna River here. The review meeting highlighted significant improvements in wastewater treatment, industrial compliance, and sewerage infrastructure.
The Haryana Pollution Control Board informed that out of the 1632 MLD of wastewater flowing through the 11 major drains that ultimately join the Yamuna, nearly 1000 MLD is already being treated, demonstrating the State’s strong commitment to river rejuvenation. Regular water quality monitoring is being carried out in all drains to ensure that pollution levels continue to decline.
Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi directed to form separate committees for each drain, having members from all the departments concerned with the Divisional Commissioner as its chairman. The committee will hold meeting every 15 days (twice a month) and submit reports to Chairman, Haryana Pollution Control Board.
The meeting was informed that the State has undertaken a major expansion of sewage treatment capacity in the Yamuna catchment. At present, Haryana has 91 Sewage Treatment Plants with a combined capacity of 1543 MLD, along with 3 STPs of 88 MLD under construction, expected to be completed by March 2027. Nine additional STPs of 227 MLD capacity are under upgradation, and nine new plants of 510 MLD have been proposed to further strengthen the treatment network. Industrial wastewater management has similarly improved, with 17 Common Effluent Treatment Plants of 184.5 MLD already operational, two CETPs undergoing upgradation, and eight new CETPs of 146 MLD capacity proposed. Almost all major industries in the region are now connected to CETPs or have installed individual Effluent Treatment Plants, ensuring near-complete compliance with environmental norms.
Drain-wise action plans presented during the meeting showed steady progress across all major drains, including Dhanaura Escape, Drain No. 2, Drain No. 6, Mungeshpur Drain, KCB Drain, Drain No. 8, Leg I, Leg II, Leg III, Budhiya Nala and Gaunchi Drain. Large-scale sewer tapping operations have been initiated to prevent untreated effluent from flowing into the river, while several new STPs—such as the 77 MLD plant at Yamuna Nagar, the 60 MLD plant proposed at Rohtak, and the 100 MLD plant planned in Gurugram—are expected to further reduce pollution load in the coming years. Upgradation work on major STPs in Rohtak, Faridabad and Gurugram is also progressing steadily.

Out of a total proposed 1632 kilometres of sewer line, 1626.6 kilometres have already been laid, and the remaining stretch of 5.4 kilometres in Faridabad is scheduled to be completed by December 31, 2026. In addition to improving treatment capacity, Haryana is emphasising the reuse of treated wastewater. No Shortage of Domestic LPG, Strict Action Will Be Taken Against Those Spreading Rumours and Indulging in Black Marketing: Rajesh Nagar
Haryana Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies ajesh Nagar has said that the supply of petrol, diesel and domestic LPG in the state is completely normal. He warned that strict action will be taken against mischievous elements spreading rumours and attempting black marketing even amid war-like situations emerging in the Middle East.
The Minister of State said that the general public should not pay attention to rumours. In an important letter issued on March 9, 2026, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India, New Delhi, provided necessary guidelines regarding ensuring adequate supply, proper and equitable distribution and availability of domestic LPG for priority sectors. In compliance with these directions, the Haryana Government has taken all necessary steps with immediate effect.
At present, the supply of petrol, diesel and domestic LPG across Haryana is running smoothly. Major oil companies—Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL)—have adequate stock available.
In addition, the supply of LPG is being received continuously, ensuring that consumers do not face any shortage.
Nagar said that the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department of Haryana is working vigilantly to strengthen the uninterrupted supply chain of the Central Government and meet the needs of consumers.
Department officials are monitoring the situation round the clock to maintain complete coordination between demand and supply. He assured that there will be no shortage of cooking gas or petrol and diesel in the state. However, there has been a temporary disruption in the supply of commercial cylinders, which will also be resolved soon. This temporary disruption is influenced by global conditions, but oil companies are continuously working to overcome it.
On a priority basis, the supply of commercial cylinders is being ensured to educational institutions, hospitals and establishments associated with other essential services. Special teams have been formed to normalise the remaining distribution, and the situation is expected to come under full control soon.
The Minister of State said that the government’s primary objective is to ensure that every household has adequate access to cooking gas and that vehicle engines continue to run smoothly. With the cooperation of the Central Government, a strong distribution network has been developed at the state level, which includes more than 5,000 distributors. Through them, lakhs of cylinders are being distributed daily.
Nagar said that to effectively curb theft, black marketing or unauthorised distribution, strict instructions have been issued to all Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of Police and District Food and Supply Controllers across the state. These instructions include launching special drives, daily reporting of stock and prompt redressal of consumer complaints. The department has kept the helpline number 1967 active where consumers can register their complaints.
The Minister also appealed to the public not to pay attention to rumours circulating through social media or other platforms regarding the supply of LPG or petroleum products. He urged citizens to avoid unnecessary panic and hoarding, as it can create artificial shortages in the market.
