Type 2 diabetes is a chronic disorder in which your cells do not respond to insulin as efficiently as they should, resulting in excessive blood sugar levels in your body. Curcumin suppresses the production of inflammatory cytokines, which has a positive impact on blood glucose levels. Turmeric not only enhances the flavour of milk but may also help reduce the risk or severity of some diabetes-related complications like heart ailments, high cholesterol levels and diabetes neuropathy,” states Dr Archana Batra, nutritionist, physiotherapist and a certified diabetes educator.

One of the most well-known health benefits of turmeric milk is its ability to boost immunity. “Curcumin has been shown to increase levels of immunoglobulin and white blood cells, which help fight off infection. Turmeric milk is also effective in relieving the symptoms of cold and flu,” remarks Nutritionist Sapna Jaysingh Patel, founder of Health Before Wealth.

“Turmeric milk is a potent anti-inflammatory elixir. Turmeric has scientifically documented roles in almost every inflammatory disease. Regular intake can increase VO2 max, i.e. the maximal capacity for oxygen consumption by the body during maximal exertion, which determines aerobic power and cardiorespiratory endurance capacity. It also increases the lactate threshold that delays fatigue. Both of these parameters are important for endurance sports such as marathons, cycling or soccer,” states nutritionist Lovneet Batra.

Turmeric milk is also effective in treating digestive issues. “The anti-inflammatory properties of curcumin can help to soothe the stomach and reduce symptoms of gas, bloating, and indigestion. Curcumin has also been shown to be effective in treating inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative,” concludes Sapna Jaysingh Patel.
