
Chandigarh, The Gully Cricket Tournament being jointly organized by the UT Cricket Association and Chandigarh Police enters at day nine with exceptional performances across multiple venues in the city. The highlight of the day was centurian Ashu (103 off 35 balls) registered the second century of the tournament. Representing Team No. 55, he smashed ten sixes and seven boundaries to pile up 171/4. In response, Team No. 62 was restricted to 103/5.
Meanwhile in other matches of the day, Team No. 8 defeated Team No. 11 by 4 wickets, while Team No. 23 secured a 7-wicket win over Team No. 28. Team No. 33 got the better of Team No. 43 by 5 wickets. A strong all-round effort saw Team No. 131 defeat Team No. 142 by 88 runs. Team No. 159 edged past Team No. 149 by 7 wickets. Team No. 163 registered one of the biggest wins of the day, thrashing Team No. 176 by 114 runs, while Team No. 192 cruised to an 8-wicket victory over Team No. 184.
Later in the evening, an exhibition match held at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium wherein British High Deputy Commission XI outclass Competent XI in a one sided affair by eight wickets.. Batting first, Competent XI posted 74/7 in their allotted 10 overs, with Sonu top-scoring with 37 runs. However, the British Deputy High Commission chased down the target efficiently, scoring 75/2 in just 6.3 overs. Rajinder Singh Nagarkoti was commended for his all round performance as he clinched two vital wickets, scored ten runs and one crurical run out.
Alok Krishan, Treasurer along with UTCA’s functionaires felicitated the winning team. The second match of the day was played between IRS XI and CAs XI at the same venue.
