The Bengali New Year – Pohela Boishak is being celebrated by Bangiya Sanskritik Sammilani (BSS), Sector 35 Chandigarh with great enthusiasm & affinity towards keeping alive the rich cultural heritage of Bengal. This year’s highlights are staging several centuries old traditional theatrical spectacle, ‘Jatra’ on 16 April at 7 pm followed by typical Bangla ratri bhoj.
“We decided to go for this dying cultural art of Bengal, Jatra, solely performed by members of BSS and cordially invite all to witness this extraordinary cultural bonanza”, said Dr Amit Bhattacharjee, President BSS.
BSS is a more than 50 years old registered society of Chandigarh and has been torch bearer in enhancing social harmony for all these years.
Col (retd.) Deepak De, Gen Secretary, BSS remarked that the key pillars of a thriving society- cultural integration, traditional art, historicity significance binds the social fabric of a nation which has been the prime objective of BSS, Chandigarh. The Management Committee has been tirelessly making efforts to make this day a great success in all sense.
The Jaatra titled ‘Bangali’ is directed by Shri Dalim Chatterjee, with Smt Anjana Menon serving as the Chief Coordinator and Sh Bhabani Pal as the Cultural Head. The cast features a diverse group of characters including Dr. Amit Bhattacharjee, Col. Deepak De, Jaymalya Sengupta, Biswajit Sen, Dipak Thakur, Sandip Chatterjee, Debashish Kulavi, Sunil Chatterjee, Saurav Chakraborty, Sankar Santra, Dr. Angan Roy, Ambika Kulavi, Tamisra Bannerjee, Samita Datta, Dr. Boshudha, Kajol Chatterjee, Subhashish Neyogi, and Anubhav Sen. The dance performances are by Projotsha, Vanshika, Umica, and Aradhya. Musical contributions are made by Ashish Dey, Supriya Sengupta, Prabal Mitra, and Dipankar Das.
