Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana and All India Federation of Women Lawyers (AIFWL) jointly launched the northern chapter including Punjab and Haryana Federation of Women Lawyers with Mrs Ritu Punj Advocate as President and Dr. Kanu Sharma as Secretary.

All India Federation of Women Lawyers is the largest association of Indian women lawyers. The federation was established in 2007 and is affiliated with International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) an international NGO formed in 1944, the largest body of women lawyers with presence in more than 94 countries.

The Inaugural ceremony and seminar on the subject “Role of Women in dispensation of Justice” was held on Sunday, April 30 at 10:00 AM at Law Bhawan, Sector 37A Chandigarh.

The two-hour event was held in the august presence of Hon’ble Mr Justice Arun Palli Judge Punjab & Haryana High Court and was presided over by Hon’ble Ms Justice Manjari Nehru Kaul Judge PHHC. The guests of honor were Hon’ble Mr Justice Rajesh Bhardwaj, Hon’ble Ms Justice Nidhi Gupta, Hon’ble Mr Justice Sanjay Vashishth, Dr Amee Yajnik Adv MP Rajya Sabha & Suvir Sidhu Chairman of Bar Council.

From the national executive, Ms Hemlata Adv President All India Federation of Women Lawyers) & Ms K. Sheela Anish Adv Founder President of All India Federation of Women Lawyers were present.

Justice Kaul stressed on the need to recognise the women in law and their unparalleled contributions. Other dignitaries jointly spoke on the theme and shared their own experiences.

In the audience were many retired Judges, Senior Advocates, women lawyers from the region, young lawyers and academicians.

The agenda of this federation is to promote women lawyers in legal profession and create platforms for growth. The Federation’s northern unit will be working at national and international levels alongwith other State units and it set to organise the first international Women in Law Conference at Chandigarh later this year.
