Famous flutist Ravinder Singh Two-day virtual ‘Varsha RItu Sandhya’ concludes

On the last day of the two-day classical music program ‘Varsha Ritu Sangeet Sandhya-2020’ by the Indian National Theatre, the famous flutist Ravinder Singh mesmerized the audience with his virtual performance and received a lot of applause. Before the event, Indian National Theatre President N Khosla and Secretary Vinita Gupta welcomed him and lauded his contribution to the music industry.

A graded artist of the AIR since 1978, Ravinder Singh has made an astounding contribution to Hindustani classical music, light music and regional folk music.  Ravinder Singh son of Anant Singh Kabli was born on July 27, 1944 at Lahore (West Pakistan). After partition, the family settled at Ludhiana. He started playing Flute at the age of 10. Formal training in Classical Music began in the year 1961 at Chandigarh under the able guidance of famous Vocalist of Punjab Jagdish Mitter. He has participated in several events in Chandigarh, Bangalore, Kolkata, Bhopal, Agra and Delhi. Ravinder Singh was flutist for 6000 music albums from 1984 to 2007 and was the music director in Haryanvi film Jatni. He has performed with famous artists like Gopi Krishan, Sitara Devi, Shobha Kosar, Uma Sharma, Jagjit Singh and Reshma.

Ravinder Singh started his flute recital with a slow tempo composition set to Vilambit Ektaal in Raag Miya Malhar followed by a Madhyalaya Teentaal composition and then gradually moved onto a Drutlaya composition winning appreciation of the listeners. After this he played two beautiful pieces in Raag Megh. His raag vistaar was beautifully conceived and he was given very good accompaniment on the tabla by Mehmood Khan. He concluded with a semiclassical piece in Raag Khamaj.
