Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, in a significant announcement for the welfare of farmers, said that the state government will provide compensation for crop losses caused by recent fire incidents. So far, damage has been reported over approximately 801 acres. Deputy Commissioners have been directed to prepare detailed reports and assess the extent of the damage. In addition to crop loss, if farmers have suffered damage to livestock or any other loss, the government will ensure they are duly compensated.
The Chief Minister urged farmers to visit their respective Deputy Commissioners’ offices and submit applications regarding their losses so that the compensation amount can be promptly transferred to their bank accounts. He assured that farmers need not worry, as the government stands firmly with them.
The Chief Minister made this announcement while addressing a programme held on the occasion of the inauguration of Shri Radha Krishna Temple at Shri Madhav Gaushala, located in village Sukhdareshanpur, Panchkula district. During this, the Chief Minister inaugurated the temple, offered prayers, planted a sapling, and fed fodder to the cows. On this occasion, the Chief Minister announced Rs. 21 lakh from his discretionary fund, while Education Minister, Mahipal Dhanda and Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Shyam Singh Rana also announced to give Rs. 11 lakh each to Madhav Gaushala.
While addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that the Shri Radha-Krishna temple would become a center of spiritual energy for devotees. He added that the temple would inspire feelings of love, compassion, and devotion, leading to positive change in society. He noted that Haryana is a state where cows are revered like mothers. Serving cows is an integral part of our religion and culture, and this Gaushala keeps that tradition alive.
The Chief Minister stated that the government has prioritized cow protection. Special schemes have been implemented to provide financial support, fodder, and medical facilities to Gaushalas. Strict laws have been enacted for the protection of cattle, and surveillance systems have been strengthened. He said that Madhav Gaushala has received approximately Rs. 47 lakh in grant assistance from 2022 to the financial year 2024-25 for the care and protection of cows.
Nayab Singh Saini said that efforts are being made to make Gaushalas self-reliant in the state. This year, the budget for Gaushalas has been increased to Rs. 595 crore, compared to just Rs. 2 crore before 2014. The state government has made arrangements to provide land for fodder cultivation, and Gaushalas will now be able to utilize Gau Charan land for this purpose. The government is fully committed to cow welfare.
He further informed that to ensure no cow remains abandoned, three cow sanctuaries have been established—one in village Nain, district Panipat, the second in village Dhandur, district Hisar, and the third in Panchkula. These sanctuaries are equipped with sheds, water, and fodder facilities. An amount of Rs. 8 crore has been released for them, and nearly 6,500 destitute cattle have already been given shelter there.
The Chief Minister said that to rehabilitate stray cattle, the government had announced a grant of Rs. 10 lakh per Gaushala for the construction of sheds in 200 gaushalas. Sheds have already been constructed in 50 of these Gaushalas. He said that until 2014, Haryana had only 215 registered Gaushalas having about 1.74 lakh cattle. However, presently, there are 683 registered Gaushalas in the state, which are home to approximately 4 lakh stray cattle.
He said that over the past ten years, the government has provided Rs. 270 crore in grants for fodder to registered Gaushalas. In the previous financial year, Rs. 166 crore was provided to 608 Gaushalas for this purpose.
Education Minister, Sh. Mahipal Dhanda and Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Sh. Shyam Singh Rana also addressed the gathering.
