
As part of the valedictory event of the centenary celebrations of Rashtriya Military School (RMS), Chail, a Georgians’ Golf tournament was organised at the Chandigarh Golf Club.
The results of the tournament were announced across various categories. In the Longest Drive category, Master Shahamir Brar claimed the top position with an impressive drive of 330 yards, followed by Col R.P.S. Mankotia with 310 yards, and Lt. Col Pankaj Mondgil with 298 yards.
For Closest to Pin, Col Pushpinder Mankotia secured first place with a remarkable shot landing just 3 feet 6 inches from the hole. He was followed by Col B.S. Goswami, whose ball stopped 10 feet away, and Lt. Gen. Sarabjit Singh, who finished third with a distance of 22 feet 10 inches.
The Best Gross Team comprised Col Premvir Sangwan, Brig Azizur Rehman, Col S.P.S. Malhotra, and Col Madan Gurung. The Second-Best Score was achieved by Col B.S. Sahni, Col Paramjit, Brig S.J.S. Sandhu, and Col Narinder Singh.
Col Bhupinderjit, the chief organiser remarked that players had come from far flung areas like Kochy, Pune, Jammu, Pathankot, Delhi and Gurugram.
Lt Gen IS Singha the convenor of the event recalled that the motto of the school when we joined in mid-sixties was “Play the Game”. It had a very deep rooted meaning of being righteous, impartial and empathetic. It also highlighted personal integrity, dedication and dignity. These are the star qualities of good golfers. Therefore, we were enthused to restate our motto on the golf course.
The Georgian Centenary Golf Tournament was conducted with fanfare and marked a remarkable bonhomie amongst the five Rashtriya Military Schools. He added that it has been decided to organise the tournament every year in November.
Sanjay Kaushal, the chief logistician for the event stated that earlier the alumni of five schools namely Chail, Bangalore, Belgaum, Ajmer and Dholpur only met twice a year on social reunions. The students of all five schools had joint NCC Camps and also met at other sports competitions.
