Government College of Education, Sector 20, Chandigarh organized an Orientation Programme and Talent Hunt for students of B.Ed., M.Ed. and PGDG&C semester I students on 16th and 17th August, 2024. Dr. Sapna Nanda Principal of the college addressed the students and extended hearty welcome to the Chief Guest of the day Swami Bhitiharananda, the secretary of Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Chandigarh. In his address congratulated students on being a part of the prestigious institution and also put some light on the importance of teachers in nation building.
Swami ji, emphasized the significance of teaching as a passion, with “Gyan Daan” being the highest form of giving. He stressed that the essence of education lies not just in the transfer of information but in the communication of knowledge, encouraging students to cultivate a thirst for learning. He referred the teachers as sculptors, responsible for shaping the best abilities of their students, and underscored the importance of the mantra “Tamaso Ma Jyotirgamaya” (from darkness to light) as the true purpose of education. He also spoke about the importance of self-reflection, the natural method of teaching, and the joy that should accompany the process of imparting knowledge. He emphasized the need for teachers to have tolerance for students’ curiosity and to make the learning journey pleasant, concluding with the principle of “Acharya Devo Bhava” (the teacher is God).
During the event, the students were oriented about the college by Dean Dr. A.K. Srivasatva Scheme of studies, internal Assessment, Time table, Guidance and Counseling lab, clubs, co-curricular activities were elaborated by respective faculty members of the college. Afterwards, incharges of various committees of the college familiarized students with valuable co-curricular activities, NSS cell, Placement cell and time table etc.
On the second day of the programme the respective faculty members will provide information regarding lecture shortage and extension lectures and talent hunt program was organized for the novel students to showcase their talents. The students participated enthusiastically in the event and displayed forte like dance, singing, mono-acting, poetry, anchoring etc. Principal of the college congratulated the students again for such wonderful participation and energetic performances and wished them success through the course of life. The orientation programme was coordinated by staff secretary Dr. Lilu Ram. The layout of the Talent hunt was prepared by Cultural Committee Incharges Dr. Vandana Aggarwal and Dr. Ravinder Kumar.
