How do you recognize and remember the services of the jawans guarding our borders in the most inhospitable conditions?  Especially when most of them are not able to join their families back home.

Rotarians had been celebrating Diwali every year by sending tons of sweets for distribution on the front posts facing sweltering heat in the deserts or quietly staying alert in the below-zero temperature in their bunkers, miles away from their homes.

“This is only a small gesture to say that “Aap Hain to hum hain” (our existence is because of you), remarks Usha Saboo wife of former world president of Rotary International who conceived the project seven years back.

The Rotarian couple had been reaching out to the community and the Rotarians to participate in this humanitarian initiative to send their humble remembrance to the jawans posted at the front.

“Many may receive just one pinni but it is the thought behind it that matters,” said Rotary District Governor V.P. Kalta who is receiving tremendous support from the Rotarians committing 10 to 100 boxes of sweets to be sent out.

Former world President of Rotary International Rajendra K Saboo expressed thanks to all the donors who participate in this project, and last year 6 tons of sweets were sent to forward posts with active support of the local Army units and the Chandigarh base of Indian Air Force who airlift the consignments.

Each one kg box of pure desi ghee sweets costs Rs.500 only at a special subsidized rate, which is packed and dispatched every year, said Rotary’s past district governor and project coordinator Madhukar Malhotra.

The contribution can be sent through bank transfer to “Chandigarh Rotary Club Service Trust”  through
