PHD Chamber organized seminar in association with Punjab Tourism Department
Amritsar, 3 December| There are a lot of jobs in the tourism sector. Due to the promotion of tourism by the Punjab government, tourism related jobs have increased from 27% to 30% in the state.
The above views were expressed by IAS Sanjay Kumar, Special Chief Secretary, Department of Cultural Affairs, Archives, Archeology and Museums, Punjab during the 15th PITEX being organized by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The theme of the seminar was Tourism.
Sanjay Kumar said that Punjab has number of places of historical importance. The connectivity of the Delhi-Katra road has not only increased the number of tourists but also new trends are emerging in this area.
Sanjay Kumar said that cultural tourism should be promoted in order to give international recognition to Amritsar. He said that publicity was being done through various mediums to establish Amritsar on the international map. In the last few years, Punjab is also growing rapidly in the field of medical tourism.
Speaking on the topic of Rural Entrepreneurship and Farm Tourism, Harkirat Singh, Convener of Tourism Committee of PHDCCI said that now village tourism is being promoted in a professional manner. Foreign tourists are now getting attracted towards village tourism and farm tourism of Punjab.
Speaking on the occasion, Ajay Mahajan, Co-Chair, PHD Chamber of Commerce Punjab Chapter, said that there is a need for synergy between tourism and industry. These two complement each other.
