“U.T. Chandigarh Skill Development Mission” was formally launched in Chandigarh today with the release of its logo by Shri V.P. Singh Badnore, Administrator, U.T., Chandigarh and Shri Rajiv Partap Rudy, Minister of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of India in the presence of Shri Parimal Rai, Adviser to Administrator, Shri Anurag Agarwal, Home Secretary-cum-Secretary Technical Education , Shri. Ajit Balaji Joshi, Deputy Commissioner, U.T. Chandigarh and officials of NSDC and MSDE were also present on this occasion.
 A presentation was given by Shri RakeshKumar Popli, Mission Director, Chandigarh Skill Development Mission, regarding the action plan to implement Skill Development Mission in Chandigarh for PMKVY. Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship has approved the target for 3 years for which approximately Rs.15.84 Crores will be sanctioned by MSDE, Govt. of India.

​After the presentation by Department of Technical Education, the Minister of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Shri. Rajiv Pratap Rudy highlighted about various initiatives being taken by Ministry with special focus on up-gradation of ITI’s and Skill Development Projects in the region. Ministry, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has announced that GITI, Sector 28, Chandigarh will be upgraded Model ITI and  Rs. 10 Crore will be granted for this purpose. He assured  full support of the Ministry of Skill Development to Chandigarh Administration to make these ITI’s as world class ITI’s.
​Hon’ble Member Parliament Smt. Kirron Kher emphasized on the need of skilling of children’s of age group of 14-18 years of slums to uplift their social status in the society. Sh. Parimal Rai, Adviser to Administrator has explained that the colleges & schools of U.T. Chandigarh have best infrastructure which can be used for skilling. It was also discussed that Chandigarh may also submit the proposal for State of the Art, Multi-Skill Centre to Ministry. Further he mentioned that if more space is also required for the skill related projects under the Ministry of Skill Development, U.T. Chandigarh will provide additional land also. Chandigarh Administration has also assured that space for the Regional office may also be provided.
The Hon’ble Governor highlighted that there is a need for implementing counseling system in all schools of Chandigarh so that all these students can get proper guidance regarding their career. He also assured that Chandigarh Administration and MSDE will work together in direction of providing best class facilities for Skilling of Youth of U.T. Chandigarh.
