National-level Departmental Summit tobe held in New Delhi on Nov18&19-Krishan K Bedi

Haryana Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Krishan Kumar Bedi said that a two-day national-level Vayo Samman National Campaign and Vayo Sarathi Departmental Summit will be organised in New Delhi on November 18 and 19. The summit will be inaugurated by Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Virendra Kumar, while Prime Minister of India Sh. Narendra Modi will preside over the concluding session.

Bedi was addressing a video conference held in Chandigarh on Wednesday to review preparations for the departmental summit. He said that 11,720 active suggestions had been received from states across the country for the summit, which would be examined in detail. The two-day summit will focus on four important themes: Nasha Mukt Bharat, empowering students through scholarships, facilities and support for persons with disabilities, and Accessible and Developed India.

Bedi said that this is the first time such a departmental summit is being organised at the national level. Two of its themes relate to social welfare, while the other two focus on persons with disabilities. These include reducing substance abuse, strengthening scholarship programmes, ensuring early identification of persons with disabilities and providing them with appropriate benefits to make them self-reliant, as well as incorporating the efforts being made by the Central Government towards building an Accessible India.

He said that the feedback received under the Panch Nivesh and Inclusive Resolution framework would be thoroughly reviewed, and future plans would be formulated and implemented accordingly. These suggestions would prove to be a milestone in strengthening social security and support systems for persons with disabilities.

The Social Justice and Empowerment Minister said that the summit would play a significant role in expanding outreach and strengthening welfare initiatives at the grassroots level. It would also provide an important platform for all states to work collectively towards these objectives. Furthermore, effective measures would be taken to address challenges in the field of disability. Ministers and senior officers from all states across the country will participate in the summit.

Additional Chief Secretary G. Anupama, Director Mukul Kumar and several other senior officers were also present on the occasion.
