Sarabha Ladies Club celebrated the festival of “Punjab Di Rooh Baisakhi” with great enthusiasm at a local hotel. The event showcased the vibrant essence of Punjabi culture, as club members donned colorful Punjabi suits and phulkari dupattas while dancing to bhangra beats in celebration of Baisakhi.
Dr. Harpreet Singh Jolly, Director of Laparoscopy and Bariatric Surgery at MASSH Prolife Hospitals, Ludhiana, addressed the gathering with important health tips focused on obesity and overall wellness. He highlighted that traditional Punjabi diets are often high in fats and calories, which can lead to obesity. He emphasized the importance of adopting a balanced diet and regular exercise to stay healthy.
Dr. Singh pointed out that 36% of adults in Ludhiana suffer from obesity, which increases the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and liver-related issues. He also discussed treatment options such as GLP-1 agonist medications and bariatric surgery, while stressing the need for lifestyle changes to prevent obesity-related complications.
The event also featured an inter-club bhangra competition on a Punjabi folk dance theme, with participation from six different clubs. In a unique twist, all participants were awarded first place. Judge Sonia Kapoor praised everyone’s outstanding performances. Club Director Shammi Bindra congratulated everyone on the occasion of Baisakhi and the anniversary of the Khalsa Panth, and also announced the newly elected club team.
The celebration was further enlivened with games like Tambola and Snowball, and dancing to the beats of the dhol. Club President Rashmi Goel, Secretary Kanchan Sethi, Treasurer Bhupendra Walia, Auditor Jasmeet Kaur, along with Meenu, Kamal Jyoti, and Neelam Manchanda extended their gratitude to all attendees.
