To ensure the continuity and smooth functioning of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana, and to support the ongoing verification process of advocates being monitored by the High-Powered Committee constituted by the Hon’ble Supreme Court and the Bar Council of India, senior advocate Mr. Rakesh Gupta has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana.
Alongside, former Co-Chairman of the Bar Council of India and Senior Deputy Advocate General of Punjab, Mr. Amit Rana, has been appointed as the Vice-Chairman, while senior advocate Mr. Surender Dutt Sharma has been entrusted with the role of Honorary Secretary. These appointments have been made in accordance with Rule 32 of the Bar Council of India Rules.
On this occasion, presidents, secretaries, and members of Bar Associations from Chandigarh, Punjab, and Haryana, along with several other advocates, extended their congratulations and best wishes to the newly appointed office bearers.
Newly appointed Chairman Rakesh Gupta said, “This is not only a great responsibility for me, but also a matter of honour for the entire legal fraternity. We are committed to ensuring that the Bar Council functions in a transparent, effective, and advocate-centric manner.”
Vice-Chairman Amit Rana stated, “I am thankful to the Bar Council for placing their trust in me. Together, we will continue to work for the resolution of advocates’ issues and the protection of their rights.”
Honorary Secretary Surender Dutt Sharma also expressed his gratitude to all the members and said, “Our priority will be to ensure the verification process is completed smoothly and that all administrative services are delivered to advocates promptly and efficiently.”
Gautam Adani, nephew Sagar summoned by US SEC over 2,200 cr-bribery case
Adani Group’s billionaire Chairman Gautam Adani and his nephew Sagar have been issued summons over US Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) allegation about paying $250 million (over ₹2,200 crore) in bribes. The duo has been asked to respond within 21 days, as per the notice sent via a US court. The summons were sent to their residences in Ahmedabad.

A terminal at London’s Gatwick Airport has been evacuated due to a security threat. “Safety and security of our passengers and staff remains our top priority. Congress wins all 3 seats in Karnatka by-polls
Congress candidates registered wins on all three seats which went for by-polls in Karnatka. Pathan Yasirahmedkhan won from Shiggaonwith margin of 13,448 votes, defeating BJP’s Bharath Bommai, E Annapoorna won from Sandur with margin of 9,649 votes defeating BJP’s Bangara Hanumantha. CP Yogeeshwara won from Channapatna with margin of 25,413 votes defeating HD Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil Kumaraswamy.
