S Vijaya Lakshmi & Rajat Nagwins Singles Titles in Women&Men categories respectively in POWERGRID Inter Regional Carrom Tournament 2023
In the three day POWERGRID Inter – Regional Carrom Tournament 2023 played at Chandigarh fron 13th to 15th July,2023. S Vijaya Lakshmi of Southern Region-I clinched Womens’ Singles Title by defeating Manjusha D.Gadge of Western Region-I in the finals held today. Earlier S Vijaya Lakshmidefeated Shewta Gupta of Northern Region-III and ManjushaD.Gadge defeated Neelam Singh of Northern Region-I in the semifinals. Third place was achieved by Shewta Gupta of Northern Region-III by defeatingNeelam Singh of Northern Region-I.
In the Mens’ category Rajat Nagof Eastern Region-II clinched the Mens’ Title by defeating V.K.Biswas of North Eastern Region in the finals. In the semifinals held earlier Rajat Nag defeated Rakesh Kumar of Northern Region-I whereasV.K.Biswas got better ofNand Kishore Ranjan of Eastern Region-I.Rakesh Kumar of Northern Region-I achieved third spot by defeating Nand Kishore Ranjan in the position match.
Similarly in the Doubles Event .Sumegha and Manjusha of western Region-I clinched Womens’ Doubles Title by defeating Shewata and Priyanka of Northern Region-III in the finals held today. EarlierSumegha and Manjusha defeatedNivedita and Charanpreet of Northern Region-II in first semifinal whereas Shewata and Priyanka defeated Lata and Suman of Corporate Office in the other semifinal. Third place was achieved byLata and Suman of Corporate Office by defeatingNivedita and Charanpreet of Northern Region-II . .
Rajat Nag and Md. Akhtar of Eastern Region-IIclinched doubles title by defeating A.K.Srivastava and Deepak Kumar of Northern Region-III in the finals. Earlier Rajat Nag and Md. Akhtar defeated Ashwin Pandiya and Ravi Shakya of Western Region-II andA.K.Srivastava and Deepak Kumar of Northern Region-III defeated A.Pawan Kumar and KCS Babu of Southern Region-I in the semifinals. Third place was achieved by Ashwin Pandiya and Ravi Shakya of Western Region-II .
The Team Championships had concluded yesterday with Southern Region-I and Eastern Region-II Wins Team championship in Women and Men categories respectively in POWERGRID Inter Regional Carrom Tournament -2023
After the matches the closing ceremony was held in which prizes and trophies were distributed among the players and match officials and medical team . The closing ceremony was chaired by Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Executive Director POWERGRID, Northern Region-II .Sh. Sathish Kumar J, CGM(Punjab),POWERGRID, Sh. A.H.Khan, Sr.GM(Chandigarh), Sh. Vinod P Baxla, General Manager(HR) and senior officials of POWERGRID, members and office bearers of Carrom Association, Chandigarh were present on this occasion.
Rajesh Kumar and distinguished guests distributed the prizes among the winners. In his brief address Rajesh Kumar congratulated the Winners and encouraged other players to perform better in future to attain success. He complimented the players for displaying professional expertise and sportsmanship during the tournament.. He highlighted the importance of sports in our daily lives and praised the efforts POWERGRID takes in arranging various sports events to keep its employees mentally and physically fit.
