Chandigarh, UT girls kicked off their BCCI Domestic season with a win by beating Saurashtra by 2 runs in the opening encounter of Women’s Under 19 T20 tournament at Chaudhary Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium at Lahli on Tuesday. A splendid knock of 41 from Skipper Gulnaz followed by a clinical spell from Aahan Vaid helped the team to dominate the opposition.
Earlier, Saurashtra won the toss and decided to field first. The top order – Simarpreet (7), Ganika Bansal (10) and Deepti Walia (4) failed to deliver with 30/3 on the board. Gulnaz managed to lead the team to a respectable score but the other batter Navnoor (7) and Taisha Manchanda (1) couldn’t last long with 64/5 leaving the side in trouble again. Ashaba ended Gulnaz’s stay as the batter scored 41 off 34 balls when the score was 88/6. With unbeaten Rakhi (10) and SamyraThakur (8) Chandigarh managed to score 101/6 in the stipulated twenty overs.
In reply, Saurashtra could not recover from the early spells and later Aahan Vaid (3/19) demolished the middle order to almost ensure the victory for Chandigarh. Apart from the unbeaten Ashaba (39), no batter could touch the double figures mark and the team was restricted to 75/7 . Chandigarh’s next match is against Nagaland on October 2 at Sultanpur.
