
Aligned with upcoming Chandigarh Premier League (CPL) while promoting environmental consciousness, the UT Cricket Association (UTCA) organised a cycle rally from Sukhna Lake to Sector 16 Cricket Stadium on Saturday. The initiative coincided with World Bicycle Day and World Environment Day, reflecting UTCA’s commitment towards encouraging sustainable and healthy lifestyles alongside sporting excellence.
The rally was flagged off by H. Rajesh Prasad, Chief Secretary, Chandigarh UT Administration in the presence of Sanjay Tandon, Founder President, UTCA, along with functionaries of the UTCA. The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation from cyclists representing several prominent cycling groups including Cyclegiri, Cyclegarh, Unity Riders and other cycling communities. Cricketers, young sports enthusiasts, senior citizens and fitness-conscious residents also joined the event, making it a truly community-driven initiative. A major attraction of the event was noted endurance cyclist Rupesh Balli, who has been undertaking the remarkable feat of cycling 100 kilometres daily.

Addressing the gathering, Sanjay Tandon highlighted UTCA’s vision of combining sports promotion with social responsibility. He emphasized that cycling is an eco-friendly mode of transport that contributes significantly to reducing carbon emissions while promoting personal health and well-being.

Meanwhile, the official trophy of the Chandigarh Premier League (CPL) will be unveiled by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini in the presence of Guest of Honour and former Indian Test cricketer Sunil Gavaskar. The league featuring six franchise-owned teams is set to commence on June 8 at Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Panchkula.
