ANU(ChandigarhCitynews) The Govt. College of Art conducted its Annual Function cum Prize Distribution ceremony today with great pomp and splendour at Tagore Theatre, Sector 18, Chandigarh. The evening was reserved for gala presentations. Dr. Tapasya Raghav, IAS, SDM(East) Chandigarh Administration was the Chief Guest for the event and Dr. Rakesh Kumar Popli, PCS, Head of the Department, Govt. College of Art and Joint Secretary Technical Education, Chandigarh Administration was the Guest of Honour. They were received with a warm welcome followed by lamp lighting ceremony. The event witnessed a large gathering of the faculty, staff, galaxy of intellectuals and dignitaries from the art fraternity, college students, participants, achievers, parents and media. The programme was an amazing kaleidoscope of entertainment with cultural activities, dance performances, musical melodies, and special highlights were Giddha, Luddi and Bhangra. A rainbow was unfurled on the stage and spread the colours of joy all around. The Annual Report of the college was presented by the Principal-Mr. Rajesh Kumar Sharma.  While addressing the audience he talked about the sessional activities and highly appreciated the talents of the performers and applauded the achievers. A Power-point presentation was screened reflecting past year’s achievements of the college. The Chief guest in her speech extolled the efforts of the college in becoming one of the premier institutions of the country. The chief guest’s address was followed by the Prize Distribution ceremony. The students brought laurels to the institute by grabbing about 34 awards in the Punjab University Youth and Heritage Festival Chandigarh Zone – A. The students won special awards in various intercollege cultural activities. Approximately 50 students won awards in the sports category. One of the highlights of the function was Fashion Show by the students who modeled and prepared costumes with waste material like newspapers, plastic packets and cardboard to mention a few. The function concluded with vote of thanks, leaving behind a handful of hues for the next year. The event was bubbling with activity and culminated with the combined hard work of the college students and faculty members.
