Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said the State Government is fully committed to improving the quality of education in government schools and providing them with better infrastructure. In this direction, new buildings of 150 government schools will be developed across the State, fully conforming to international standards. For the design and construction of these schools, the best models adopted by leading States and reputed institutions across the country, along with guidance from experts, will be taken into consideration.
The Chief Minister was chairing a high-level review meeting of the School Education Department at his official residence, ‘Sant Kabir Kutir’, in Chandigarh on Friday evening. Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda was also present at the meeting.
*Deliberations on comprehensive development of 719 Model Schools*
During the meeting, various schemes and activities of the department aimed at promoting quality and modern education in the State were reviewed in detail. Special focus was laid on the comprehensive development and strengthening of 719 Model Schools in Haryana, including Sansriti Model Schools, Chief Minister’s Early English and Excellence Schools, and PM-SHRI Schools.
The Chief Minister directed the officers to ensure that the required infrastructure and facilities are provided in all these schools on priority. He made it clear that new buildings, additional classrooms, separate toilets, strong boundary walls, playgrounds, science and computer laboratories, digital labs, smart classrooms, libraries, new furniture, tablets and other modern teaching resources should be provided in a timely manner. The Chief Minister directed the officers of the Finance Department and the Education Department to ensure that there would be no shortage of funds for these development works and that all construction works should be completed at the earliest.
*Education to be based on modern technology and AI*
The Chief Minister said that government schools would be transformed with high-quality furniture, digital and smart classrooms, Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based learning facilities, vocational education, state-of-the-art science and computer laboratories, and digital libraries.
He said the objective of the Government is to provide students in government schools with a high-quality learning environment so that these schools emerge as centres of excellence in quality education. These 150 new schools and 719 Model Schools will serve as sources of inspiration and role models for all other schools in the State. He called upon the officers to implement this ambitious plan in a time-bound manner and make Haryana a leading State in the country in the field of school education.
*Special emphasis on teacher motivation and cleanliness*
During the meeting, Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda also issued important directions to the officers. He said that teachers delivering outstanding performance should be identified, encouraged and felicitated to improve the teaching-learning environment in schools. He also directed that cleanliness, drinking water facilities and overall sanitation standards in all government schools should be further improved.
Senior administrative officers of the School Education Department were also present at the meeting and apprised the Chief Minister of the progress of ongoing development projects and the action plan for upcoming initiatives.
Chief Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Rajesh Khullar, Principal Secretary, School Education Department, Vijay Singh Dahiya, Deputy Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Yashpal Yadav, Director General, Secondary Education, Jitender Dahiya, Director Smt. Manita Malik, Director, Education Project Council, Swapnil Ravindra Patil, and other senior officers were present on the occasion.

Governor addresses National Conference on ‘War Against Drugs’ at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala
PM Modi’s vision has created vast opportunities for youth; No place for the menace of drug abuse
Haryana Governor Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh called upon the youth to take a pledge against drug abuse and work collectively towards eliminating this menace from society. He said that if every young person inspires ten others to join this mission, the collective resolve can grow into a powerful nationwide movement.
The Governor was addressing the National Conference on “War Against Drugs” organised at the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala, Punjab, on Saturday. Punjab Governor Sh Gulab Chand Kataria, First Lady of Haryana Smt Mitra Ghosh also present on this occasion.
Describing the conference as a clarion call to choose between hope and despair, Prof. Ghosh said one path leads to health, education, sports and success, while the other leads to addiction, broken families and shattered dreams. Expressing confidence in the youth, he said they would choose the path of life, purpose and progress and become ambassadors of a drug-free society. He added that the conference marks the beginning of a powerful public awareness movement whose message will spread far beyond Punjab.
The Governor said that the greatest strength of any nation is its youth. When young people dream big, work hard and move forward with confidence, no force can stop the nation’s progress. However, drug abuse strikes at these very aspirations by weakening individuals, destroying families and eroding the social fabric. Therefore, he said, the fight against drugs is not the responsibility of law enforcement agencies alone but a shared responsibility of families, educational institutions, communities and every citizen.
Urging young people to remain resilient in the face of challenges such as academic pressure, unemployment and loneliness, Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh said that drugs can never be the solution. “The real solutions lie in determination, dialogue, guidance and self-belief,” he said.
The Governor also appealed to parents and guardians to spend quality time with their children and nurture relationships built on trust and open communication. Timely guidance and emotional support, he said, can prevent many young lives from falling into addiction. He stressed that those affected by substance abuse deserve compassion, treatment and rehabilitation rather than rejection and stigma.
Highlighting the initiatives of the Central Government, Prof. Ghosh said that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, programmes such as Fit India, Khelo India, Skill India, Digital India, Startup India and the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 are creating unprecedented opportunities for the country’s youth. With such opportunities available, he said, there is no place for the scourge of drug abuse.
The Governor said Haryana has earned global recognition through its sporting achievements; likewise, the youth of Punjab have also brought immense glory to the nation in sports. He expressed confidence that with the same courage, discipline and determination, the youth of region would play a leading role in defeating the menace of drugs and strengthening the nation’s future.
Vice Chancellor Rajiv Gandhi National University of law, Patiala Prof Jai S. Singh and VCs of various other Universities and others were also present in the conference.
