Haryana Transport Minister Shri Anil Vij said that over 11 acres of land at Shahpur, Ambala Cantonment, has been officially registered in the name of the Transport Department for the establishment of a Driving Training & Research Institute (IDTR) and an Automated Vehicle Testing Station (ATS). He further informed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a major transport company, Ashok Leyland, is likely to be signed within the next week. Sh. Vij said that aspiring drivers often had to travel long distances to receive mandatory training required for obtaining driving licences. To address this issue, the government has initiated the establishment of a modern Driving Training & Research Institute in Ambala Cantonment. More than 11 acres of land have been identified and registered for this purpose at Shahpur.He added that vehicle fitness testing will also be carried out at the same location using advanced automated systems. This will significantly improve road safety and provide substantial benefits to people from Ambala and surrounding districts. Vij further said that the project will create hundreds of direct and indirect employment opportunities. The institute will help thousands of young people from nearby districts enhance their driving skills and professional competencies through advanced training programs. In addition, the Automated Vehicle Testing Station will be capable of conducting fitness inspections of approximately 300 vehicles per week.
