SAKSHAM 2026 Concludes with a Strong Call for Sustainable Energy Conservation

0
SAKSHAM 2026, the annual nationwide campaign on fuel conservation and energy efficiency, concluded today with a remarkable display of public participation and awareness across Punjab and Chandigarh. Organized under the aegis of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas by Oil & Gas PSUs, the fortnight-long initiative successfully engaged students, industries, transporters, farmers, RWAs, and the general public in promoting responsible energy usage and a greener future. Speaking at the valedictory function held at Rani Laxmi Bai Bhawan, Shri Ashutosh Gupta, State Level Coordinator (Punjab) and Executive Director & State Head, Indian Oil, emphasized the importance of carrying forward the spirit of SAKSHAM beyond the campaign period. He noted that energy conservation must become a sustained behavior rather than a fortnight-long effort. He further highlighted that with India’s rapidly increasing energy demand and high dependence on crude oil imports, efficient fuel usage is essential for enhancing national energy security and reducing environmental impact. Shri Sushant Goyal, Chief Regional Manager (Retail), Chandigarh Retail RO, appealed to students, industry representatives, and the media to continue spreading the conservation message widely and to make energy-efficient practices a regular habit. Shri Jaideep Jain, DGM – Chandigarh Zonal Office, GAIL, and Shri Ramlal, DGM (Retailing Initiatives), BPCL, also addressed the gathering and encouraged collective responsibility toward fuel efficiency. This year’s campaign featured a diverse range of activities including Walkathon and Cyclothon, fuel‑efficient driving sessions for drivers and mechanics, awareness talks at ROs and CNG stations, school and college competitions, LPG safety and clean cooking programs, industry workshops, and an extensive social media outreach drive. These activities helped disseminate the conservation message to thousands of citizens and strengthened the culture of responsible energy use across the region. The valedictory function witnessed a fuel conservation pledge by students and members of the audience. A felicitation ceremony was also held in which students were honoured by dignitaries for their enthusiastic participation in conservation‑related activities. A thematic play on Oil & Gas conservation was presented by ‘Samvaad Theatre Group’, creatively highlighting the importance of fuel efficiency and environmental protection. Stakeholders reiterated that simple actions—avoiding idling, adopting carpooling and public transport, maintaining vehicles regularly, switching to efficient appliances, and opting for cleaner mobility options—have the potential to significantly reduce fuel consumption and emissions. The organizers expressed gratitude to participating institutions, departments, students, media partners, and community groups for their enthusiastic involvement, which contributed to making SAKSHAM 2026 a meaningful and impactful awareness drive. The campaign concluded with a collective resolve to continue promoting fuel conservation, energy efficiency, and environmental protection throughout the year, echoing the message:“Conserve Oil and Gas, Go Green.”
