Punjab Governor and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Gulab Chand Kataria attended the oath-taking ceremony of Himanta Biswa Sarma as the Chief Minister of Assam at a grand function held in Guwahati.
The ceremony was graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, besides several Governors, Chief Ministers, Union Ministers and other eminent dignitaries from across the country.
On the occasion, Kataria extended his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Himanta Biswa Sarma on assuming office once again as the Chief Minister of Assam. He expressed confidence that under Sarma’s leadership, Assam would continue to achieve new milestones in development, good governance and public welfare.
It is pertinent to mention that Gulab Chand Kataria had earlier served as the Governor of Assam and remained on the constitutional post for more than a year during the previous tenure of Himanta Biswa Sarma as Chief Minister. During that period, both leaders shared a strong administrative coordination and a common vision for the progress and welfare of the people of Assam.
The swearing-in ceremony also reflected the rich cultural heritage and vibrant traditions of the North-Eastern region. A large number of public representatives, senior officials, social leaders and distinguished guests were present on the occasion.
Kataria observed that the North-East has emerged as a major centre of growth and national integration under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He noted that Assam, in recent years, has witnessed remarkable progress in infrastructure, connectivity, tourism and socio-economic development, and expressed hope that the new government would further accelerate the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’.
