The Property Consultants Association, Chandigarh, has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, urging the immediate restoration of share-wise property registrations in the city to safeguard the interests of middle-class families.
According to the association, a large section of Chandigarh’s population resides in small houses, Housing Board units, and share-based properties. Due to the suspension of share-wise registrations for nearly three years, thousands of families have been deprived of their ability to legally buy and sell homes. The association also pointed out that no new affordable housing scheme has been launched by the Chandigarh Housing Board for the middle class in recent years, leaving many aspiring homeowners without viable options.
The association noted that during the upcoming high-level meeting on Chandigarh-related matters, the Home Minister is expected to review several key issues concerning the city. Residents are hopeful that the matter of share-wise registrations will receive priority attention. The move, they said, would not only provide relief to thousands of pending property transactions but also enhance government revenue.
Association President Vikram Chopra and Secretary Jatinder Singh stated that the suspension of share-wise registrations has hit the middle class the hardest. With property prices continuing to rise, home ownership is becoming increasingly difficult for ordinary families. They demanded the immediate resumption of share-wise registrations, adding that the administration is already examining legal options in this regard.
They further emphasized that Chandigarh cannot become a city exclusively for the affluent. If affordable housing is to remain accessible for common citizens, restoring share-wise registrations is an urgent necessity, they said.
