Inmates at Central Jail, Sri Goindwal Sahib Perform Yoga on International Yoga Day
With the objective of promoting a healthy lifestyle, International Yoga Day was celebrated at Central Jail, Goindwal Sahib, in Tarn Taran district. Jail officials, inmates participated enthusiastically in the event. The yoga session was organized by the Central Bureau of Communication, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, in collaboration with the jail administration. Various yoga asanas were performed under the guidance of trained yoga instructors.
Jail Superintendent Manjeet Singh Tiwana (PPS) attended the program as the Chief Guest. Addressing the participants, he described the initiative as a commendable step towards creating awareness about yoga and emphasized that yoga is an integral part of our lives.
Speaking on the occasion, Gurmeet Singh (IIS), FPO, Central Bureau of Communication, Amritsar, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, said that the beginning made on International Yoga Day should be carried forward throughout the year. He stressed the need to motivate more people to adopt yoga so that they can lead healthy and balanced lives.
Deputy Superintendent of Jail Jatinder Pal Singh stated that nowadays, people who wish to stay away from diseases should make yoga a part of their daily lives. He noted that International Yoga Day has significantly enhanced the global popularity of yoga over the past few years. He further said that the discipline displayed by the inmates during the session demonstrated how adopting yoga can help prevent numerous health problems. Deputy Superintendent Gurjant Singh was also present on the occasion.
A painting competition was also organized during the event, in which inmates participated enthusiastically. In the competition, Abhishek Singh secured the first position, Rajesh stood second, Jaswant Singh Sohal secured third place, and Simranjit Singh finished fourth.

In addition, artists from the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting captivated the audience with their cultural performances at the International Yoga Day celebrations organized at Khalsa College, Amritsar, in collaboration with the 1 Punjab Battalion NCC.
International Yoga Day serves as a platform to raise awareness about the benefits of yoga among millions of people worldwide. Meanwhile, the yoga session organized at Central Jail, Goindwal Sahib, concluded successfully and received enthusiastic participation and support from all attendees.
