Brilliant centuries by Rupesh Yadav (116) and Rithwik Sood (111) powered Chandigarh to an emphatic 32-run victory over Goa in their opening league match of the BCCI Under-19 Men’s One-Day Tournament (Siechem Trophy) at Puducherry, on Thursday. Riding on the two magnificent knocks, Chandigarh piled up a mammoth 363 for 7 before restricting Goa to 331 for 8 in a high-scoring encounter.
After electing to bat, Chandigarh got off to a steady start through Akul Bhanot (33). Rupesh Yadav then anchored the innings with a superb 116 off 139 balls, striking 11 boundaries and six sixes, while Rithwik Sood dazzled with a fluent 111 off just 91 deliveries, laced with 10 fours and seven sixes. The duo stitched together a massive 191-run partnership for the second wicket, laying the foundation for Chandigarh’s imposing total.
Goa responded positively, with Aaditya Kota scoring 86 and Vinit Kamat adding 61, but Chandigarh bowlers held their nerve. Ankan Latka and Rupesh Yadav claimed two wickets each to restrict opponents at 331/8.
