"SKM to hold a crucial meeting with farmers from across the nation," says BKU leader Rakesh Tikait

BKU leader Rakesh Tikait announced that the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) will convene a crucial meeting on Thursday, bringing together farmers from all over the country to chart the future of their protest. Tikait emphasized that a memorandum outlining farmers’ vital demands will be presented to both state and central governments.

Tikait stressed the significance of issues such as the MSP guarantee, the electricity amendment bill, and the implementation of the Swaminathan committee report, stating that without MSP assurance, farmers nationwide would encounter difficulties. He strongly advocated for excluding private entities from the agricultural sector, citing widespread demonstrations across the nation in support of this stance.

Expressing skepticism about the government’s willingness to address their demands, Tikait warned that if the government does not comply, all negotiations between the Centre and farmers would be fruitless. He highlighted the inclusive nature of the protest, asserting that it represents farmers from across India, not just Punjab and Haryana.

Meanwhile, Union Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda expressed readiness for further discussions with farmers and extended an invitation for the fifth round of talks. He emphasized the importance of dialogue in resolving issues related to MSP, stubble burning, FIRs, and crop diversification, urging farmers to maintain peace.

Despite the talks, farmers resumed their ‘Dilli Chalo’ march after the fourth round of discussions with the Centre. However, their progress was hindered by security personnel at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana.
