Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said that the lives of saints and great spiritual leaders serve as a source of inspiration for society, and it is only by following their teachings that the values of humanity, service, brotherhood, and spirituality can be strengthened.
The Chief Minister was addressing the congregation during a religious gathering held at Gurdwara Sri Gufasar Sahib, Rodewal, Patiala, Punjab on Wednesday. The event was dedicated to the 60th death anniversary of Baba Puran Das Ji Maharaj and the 12th death anniversary of Sant Baba Balwant Singh Ji (Sihode Wale).
Paying tribute to Sant Baba Balwant Singh Ji and Baba Puran Das Ji Maharaj, Saini said that both saints devoted their entire lives to religion, penance, public welfare, and service to humanity. Their efforts in constructing wells in water-scarce regions, establishing schools to promote education, and building gurdwaras stand as testimony to their role as social reformers.
He said that Sant Baba Balwant Singh Ji carried forward the great legacy of his Guru by making significant contributions in the fields of humanitarian service, spiritual awakening, and education. He worked to connect the youth with religion and moral values and played an important role in establishing educational institutions.
The Chief Minister said that Punjab, which was once known as the food bowl of the nation and a driving force of development, has today lost its direction. The Punjab that gave the country outstanding sportspersons, brave soldiers, and industrialists who earned global recognition is increasingly falling into the trap of drug abuse. The land that once inspired revolution now sees many of its youth facing uncertainty about their future.
Saini said that society today faces numerous challenges. To protect the younger generation from drug addiction, social evils, and violence, it is essential to adopt the ideals and teachings of saints. He urged the youth to embrace moral and spiritual values alongside modern education.
He further said that Punjab and Haryana have long been the land of saints, Gurus, and brave warriors. It is our collective responsibility to strengthen the spirit of brotherhood, harmony, and service in society and to ensure that future generations remain connected to the teachings of great personalities.
Appreciating the management committee of Gurdwara Sri Gufasar Sahib and the service, community kitchen (langar), and social welfare activities being carried out under the guidance of Sant Gurcharan Das Ji, the Chief Minister said that such initiatives help strengthen the spirit of unity and humanity in society.
A large number of devotees, saints, public representatives, and distinguished citizens were present on the occasion.
CM Nayab Singh Saini Appeals to the People of Punjab to Make the Right Choice for Their Children’s Future, Punjab’s Prosperity and the Building of a Viksit Bharat
Drug trafficking, gang wars, extortion and rising crime have created an atmosphere of fear among the people of Punjab: CM
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, addressing the people from the sacred land of Sri Muktsar Sahib, called upon Punjabis to reclaim their lost glory and move towards making Punjab the number one state in the country through development, good governance and politics guided by national interest.
Paying obeisance to the First Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, all the Guru Sahibs, Sahibzadas and great personalities, the Chief Minister said that the holy land of Sri Muktsar Sahib stands witness to the unparalleled sacrifices of Chali Mukte, Bhai Maha Singh Ji and Mai Bhago Ji. He said that Punjab and Haryana share a common culture, language and emotional bond. He said he had come before the people of Punjab not as the Chief Minister of a neighbouring state but as a younger brother and a well-wisher.
He said that the people of Punjab had earlier given opportunities to the Congress and later to the Aam Aadmi Party, but neither met the expectations of the people. He accused Congress of corruption, dynastic politics and obstructing development, while alleging that the Aam Aadmi Party had turned Punjab into a political laboratory and failed to fulfil its promises.
The Chief Minister said that the Aam Aadmi Party had made tall promises in Punjab, but today every section of society was asking where the promised change was. He pointed out that the promise of providing ₹1,100 per month to women had not been fulfilled even after four years. In contrast, he said, the Haryana Government had begun providing ₹2,100 per month to women from poor families under the Deendayal Lado Lakshmi Yojana, with crores of rupees already transferred directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
He questioned the AAP government in Punjab over issues relating to drug abuse, crime, illegal mining, financial mismanagement and deteriorating law and order. He said that Punjab’s youth were struggling to find employment and that thousands of young people were being compelled to seek illegal routes to migrate abroad. He said that the most serious crisis facing Punjab was the growing menace of drugs, which had devastated many families and endangered the future of the youth.
Saini said that incidents of drug trafficking, gang wars, extortion and crime had created an atmosphere of fear among ordinary citizens. He said that traders, industrialists and common people were worried about their security and that criminals no longer appeared to fear the law.
Speaking on farmers’ issues, the Chief Minister said that the Haryana Government was procuring 24 crops at the Minimum Support Price (MSP). During the last 11 crop seasons, payments amounting to ₹1.64 lakh crore for MSP procurement had been transferred directly into the bank accounts of 12 lakh farmers. He said that, in contrast, farmers in Punjab were still struggling for their rights and for the implementation of electoral promises.
The Chief Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Bharatiya Janata Party was working on the principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas.” He said that the BJP does not merely make announcements but delivers results. He claimed that out of the 217 promises made in the Haryana Assembly election manifesto, 66 had been fulfilled within one and a half years, while work on the remaining promises was progressing rapidly.
Appealing to the people of Punjab, Saini urged them to make the right decision for the future of their children, the prosperity of Punjab and the building of a developed India. He expressed confidence that Punjab would once again script a new chapter of development, prosperity and pride.
Among those present on the occasion were programme organiser and party leader Smt. Manveer Kaur Gill, the Chief Minister’s Political Secretary Tarun Bhandari, State General Secretary Sardar Dayal Singh Sodhi, Muktsar District President Satish Asija, Assembly In-charge Rajesh Pathela, former MP Sardar Jagmeet Singh Brar, Rahul Sidhu, Pooja Kakkar, Balivinder Singh Minkle, Gurcharan Singh, Amandeep, Devdutt Sharma and a large number of distinguished persons.
Process to Open 4,000 New Ration Depots To Be Expedited: Rajesh Nagar
Haryana Minister of State for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Rajesh Nagar, has directed officials to accelerate the process of opening 4,000 new ration depots under the Public Distribution System (PDS), in line with Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s budget announcement. He also instructed that information regarding depots whose licences have been suspended or cancelled and subsequently attached to nearby depots should be communicated both to the department headquarters and the general public to ensure that ration beneficiaries do not face any inconvenience.
Chairing a review meeting with all District Food and Supplies Controllers through video conferencing, Nagar said that effective implementation of the Central Government’s ‘One Nation, One Ration Card’ initiative remains a key priority of the department. He directed officials to update Aadhaar-linked data of defective Point of Sale (PoS) machines and ensure that modern facilities such as iris scanners and facial recognition scanners are incorporated into them.
The Minister emphasized that the margin money payable to ration depot holders should be credited to their accounts by the 10th of every month. He also instructed the department to constitute a special team at the headquarters level to monitor depot stocks and conduct random inspections at least four to five times every month.
Officials informed the meeting that Haryana has a total of 40 lakh families covered under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) and Below Poverty Line (BPL) categories, comprising 1.57 crore beneficiaries who receive ration every month. This includes 2.86 lakh Antyodaya families and 37.14 lakh BPL families.
The officials further stated that under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), Antyodaya families receive 35 kilograms of wheat free of cost per family, while BPL beneficiaries receive 5 kilograms of wheat per member free of charge. Additionally, through the Public Distribution System, beneficiaries are provided one kilogram of sugar at Rs 13.50 per kilogram, along with one-litre and two-litre packs of mustard oil at prices lower than prevailing market rates.
Rajesh Nagar directed officials to study the public distribution systems of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi and Rajasthan to examine what additional commodities are being provided to beneficiaries in those states along with ration supplies. During the meeting, it was also noted that before 2018, 2.5 kilograms of gram (chana) dal was distributed in place of mustard oil. Subsequently, after data matching with the Citizen Resources Information Department, the number of BPL families was revised downward.
Commissioner and Secretary of the department, J. Ganesan, informed the Minister that a dedicated portal is being developed for the payment of margin money to depot holders. Once operational, the payment process will become automated, and the amount will be directly credited to the accounts of depot operators. He added that Rs 42.90 crore has already been released for April 2026.
The meeting also discussed measures to enhance storage capacity. The Minister said that storage constraints often arise in mandis after government procurement and suggested that the department formulate a central guarantee-based warehousing policy on the lines of the Food Corporation of India (FCI). Such a policy, he said, would encourage private investment and create employment opportunities for youth at the local level.
Officials informed the meeting that, keeping in view the requirement of 54,000 jute bales for the Kharif Marketing Season 2026–27, an order has already been placed with the Jute Commissioner, Kolkata.
Reviewing the verification of rice mills, officials reported that Haryana has a total of 1,401 rice mills, of which 524 have completed PV (Physical Verification) inspections, while verification of the remaining mills will be completed by June 30. The Minister directed that special teams from the headquarters be sent to rice mills in Karnal, Hisar and Yamunanagar to inspect CMR (Custom Milled Rice) stocks.
Officials further informed that the presence of the concerned miller is mandatory during the physical verification process, and verification is completed only after authentication through an OTP received on the miller’s registered mobile number.
Director General Anshaj Singh, Special Secretary Jagdeep Dhanda, and other senior officials of the department were also present at the meeting.

ONGC’s Rs 39-Crore Cancer Care Investment and Eight New Medical Colleges Signal Haryana’s Healthcare Push
Additional Chief Secretary, Medical Education and Research, Dr. Sumita Misra reviewed progress on eight upcoming government medical colleges while also announcing a significant CSR-backed enhancement of cancer treatment facilities at Pt. B.D. Sharma PGIMS, Rohtak.
At the centre of the development is a nearly Rs 39-crore Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, which will equip PGIMS Rohtak with advanced cancer treatment infrastructure. Dr. Misra described the initiative as a major step towards strengthening affordable and advanced cancer care in Haryana’s public health system.
Under the CSR initiative, ONGC has donated a CT Simulator worth about Rs 10 crore to the institute’s Radiotherapy Department. In addition, the corporation has released the first instalment of funding for the procurement of a Linear Accelerator, part of a project valued at approximately Rs 39 crore. Dr. Misra was chairing the 31st meeting of the Monitoring and Supervisory Committee for Medical Education and Research (MSMER) here today.
She informed that the CT Simulator and Linear Accelerator will significantly enhance the institute’s capability to diagnose, plan and deliver precision radiation therapy to cancer patients. The advanced equipment is expected to enable PGIMS Rohtak to provide treatment standards comparable to leading specialised cancer centres.
Dr. Misra said the initiative will benefit thousands of patients from Haryana and neighbouring states who depend on the institute for affordable healthcare services. Dr. Misra conducted a comprehensive review of government medical college projects being developed at Kaithal, Yamunanagar, Jind, Sirsa, Karnal, Sonipat, Bhiwani and Koriyawas.
The review covered construction progress, procurement of medical equipment, faculty recruitment, utility infrastructure, residential facilities and preparedness for approvals from the National Medical Commission (NMC). A key highlight of the meeting was that the Government Medical Colleges at Kaithal and Yamunanagar have crossed 80 per cent construction completion, placing them among the leading projects in Haryana’s medical education expansion programme.
Dr. Misra directed all executing agencies to ensure timely completion of pending works, including utility connections, equipment procurement, faculty appointments and statutory clearances. She stressed that all facilities should be fully prepared before seeking inspections and approvals from the NMC.
She also reviewed the status of residential accommodation, campus infrastructure and other support facilities, directing officials to ensure their completion alongside academic and hospital buildings.
The twin developments reflect Haryana’s efforts to strengthen both specialized healthcare services and medical education infrastructure simultaneously. While the ONGC-supported cancer care project is expected to significantly improve oncology services at PGIMS Rohtak, the upcoming medical colleges are set to expand MBBS education capacity and improve access to tertiary healthcare in underserved regions. Officials said the projects will help reduce pressure on existing healthcare institutions and bring quality medical education and treatment facilities closer to people across the state.
