CHANDIGARH—It’s like a cricket match between the Chandigarh Administration and COVID 19 in Bapu Dham Colony. When the colony has scored COVID 19 ton, worry lit large on the face of the Chandigarh Administration and is looking for a bowlers to contain the score. The Administration picked up three bowlers–Mr Sudhanshu Gautam, SDM (E) and very young and daring officer; another dynamic official Mr Bikram Rana, Special Incident Commander and Mr Sanjeev Kohli, civil defence instructor. Mr Gautam was overall strategist, Mr Rana was head of operation and Mr Kohli was executor of the strategy. They changed their bowling strategy to break the score.

From day one, Mr Gautam has launched his strategy to ‘break the chain’ to fend off COVID 19 spread from the area which has turned a cluster of pandemic in the city.

Following his strategy, he took into account different possible scenarios including humane face with closed-fists man. His action started paying dividend and for the past four days no new case of COVID 19 was reported from the area. Notably, the colony has reported more than 90 per cent cases and turned into the breading ground the pandemic. Though a number of people involve in ‘fight’ but most of the credit goes to Mr Gautam who has taken the challenge aggressively.

With the word ‘go’ he stepped up surveillance in the area and movement of people in the area restricted without putting them to avoidable inconvenience. He utilized his experience to contain COVID 19 spread after a bumpy start. Colony was the first cluster of Chandigarh registered COVID 19 first case and topped the list of pandemic in Chandigarh. His involvement in the fight day and night has managed successfully flattened the curve of pandemic. Out of total 183 cases, colony has recorded 137 cases.

On the mission, he said that the reason why they have successfully been able to flatten the curve of the pandemic was because of excellent departmental coordination at all levels and their will to fight the pandemic to the end. “We have also been able to repose the people’s faith in the system,” says Mr Rana.
