Borluit Productions begins Dipholu’s release journey with tribute to Zubeen Garg & Gayatri Hazarika

Borluit Productions officially commenced the promotional campaign for its debut Assamese feature film Dipholu with an emotional tribute to two of Assam’s most beloved musical legends, the late Zubeen Garg and the late Gayatri Hazarika, whose voices continue to live on through the film.

The special event marked the first public engagement leading up to the theatrical release of Dipholu on August 21, 2026. Bringing together members of the film fraternity, music lovers, media representatives and admirers of the two legendary singers, the programme celebrated the enduring legacy of two artistes whose contribution to Assamese music continues to inspire generations.

At the heart of the event was the official release of Xorogi Xopun, a romantic duet featuring the voices of Zubeen Garg and Gayatri Hazarika. The song carries immense emotional significance for the filmmakers and audiences alike, as it represents one of the final recorded works of two voices that have left an indelible mark on Assam’s cultural landscape.

Speaking on the occasion, director Nekib said the team consciously chose to begin the film’s promotional journey with a tribute rather than a conventional song launch.

“The presence of Zubeen Da’s legendary voice itself is a blessing for us. Added to that, we could record Gayatri Ba’s melodious voice. This song is more of an emotional gradient for us rather than a commercial song. The presence of this song takes our film to another emotional plane. Hence, we wanted to take the first step towards releasing our film by making it a tribute to Zubeen Da and Gayatri Ba rather than a conventional song launch,” he said.

Reflecting on the experience of working with the two singers, Nekib described the recording sessions as some of the most memorable moments of the film’s journey.

“Working with Zubeen Da and Gayatri Ba was wonderful. Watching Zubeen Da record a song was magical. It was as good as watching an international live concert. Gayatri Ba was cheerful and sincere with her work at the same time. We loved working with both of them and miss them deeply. They will remain forever in our hearts,” he added.

According to the filmmaker, Xorogi Xopun occupies a crucial place within the narrative of Dipholu, serving as an emotional bridge that binds together themes of love, romance, humour, responsibility and social consciousness.

Apart from Zubeen Garg and Gayatri Hazarika, Rupali Kashyap, Rakesh Reeyan and Montumoni Saikia have also lent their voices in other songs of the film. Lyrics of the songs have been written by Nekib, while the composition and music have been done by Jekiv. Gargee Bhattacharjee has also penned one of the songs of the film.

Adding to the emotional atmosphere, members of Jontro, the iconic band closely associated with Zubeen Garg, participated in the programme and paid tribute to the legendary singers.

Speaking about the involvement of Jontro in the event, Nekib said, “Zubeen Da is the heartbeat of Assam, and Jontro is carrying that heartbeat and legacy forward. We felt the launch event would be incomplete without their presence. Their participation gives us an emotional connection to Zubeen Da, without which we cannot even think about our film.”

Produced by Jekiv and directed by Nekib, Dipholu marks Borluit Productions’ bold entry into feature-length cinema after earning recognition for acclaimed short films such as Rong – The Colour and Akaax Bisari – Into the Sky. Rooted in the realities of Assamese village life, the film combines humour, emotion and a strong social message while celebrating the culture, traditions and spirit of Assam.

The film features an ensemble cast including Amrita Gogoi, Subrat Deori, Arun Nath, Arun Hazarika, Purnada Hazarika, Rajib Dowari, Jyotishman Borah, Kanika Nath, Anirban Kalita, Ankur Baidya, Dr. Hitesh Baruah, Simashree Bora, Priyanshi Kashyap and Dibya Jyoti Borah, with veteran actress Mridula Barua appearing in a special role.

As Dipholu begins its journey towards release, Borluit Productions chose not to start with celebration alone, but with remembrance — honouring two extraordinary voices whose music continues to echo across Assam and whose final songs will now find a new home on the silver screen.
