Settlement through dialogue better than War, Peace Benefits Everyone: VIJ

Haryana Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Anil Vij welcomed the ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the conflict between the United States and Iran, stating that resolving disputes through dialogue and agreement is always preferable to war.

Responding to media queries in Ambala Cantonment, Vij said that “It is a positive development that efforts are being made to resolve the issue through an agreement rather than through war. According to the indications available so far, a settlement appears to be nearing finalization. If an agreement is reached, India will also benefit significantly, as nearly 25 to 30 percent of the country’s petroleum requirements are met through imports from Middle Eastern nations, and these supplies had been affected due to the conflict.”

He further said that India had also suffered losses as a consequence of the tensions in the region. “Three of our sailors lost their lives. If normal shipping routes are restored and regional stability returns, India will find relief from the difficulties currently being faced in securing petroleum supplies,” he added.

*Accurate Electoral Rolls Vital for Democracy*

Replying to a question regarding the commencement of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in Haryana, Vij said that SIR is an important component of the electoral system and plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of voter rolls.

He noted that such an exercise had not been undertaken for several years, leading to various discrepancies in electoral rolls. “There are instances where names of people who have shifted from one place to another still remain on voter lists. Similarly, names of deceased persons have not been deleted in some cases, and there are also instances where ineligible individuals have managed to get their names included in the rolls,” he said.

The Minister emphasized that it is the constitutional responsibility of the Election Commission of India to ensure that elections are conducted on the basis of accurate and updated voter lists. “Free, fair and transparent elections are the foundation of a healthy democratic system. Therefore, we welcome the SIR exercise and urge every citizen to cooperate fully in this process,” Vij said.

He informed that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit households to verify voter details and appealed to citizens to provide correct information so that electoral rolls can be updated accurately and comprehensively. “Accurate voter lists are essential for strengthening democracy and ensuring the credibility of the electoral process,” he added.
