Overnight rain reduces matches as Tricity Bashers register crucial first win in CPL

Overnight rain and a wet outfield forced the Omaxe Chandigarh Premier League 2026 fixture between HIIMS Hawks and Tricity Bashers to be reduced to an eight-overs-a-side contest at Tau Devi Lal Stadium on Friday. Facing a virtual do-or-die situation in the league, Tricity Bashers rose to the occasion and registered their first victory of the tournament with a convincing seven-wicket win.

After winning the toss and elected to field, the Bashers did well to restrict the in-form HIIMS Hawks to 102 for 5 in their allotted eight overs. Nikhil Thakur led the scoring for Hawks with a blistering 33 off just 14 balls while skipper Manan Vohra contributed 20 from nine deliveries. Nipunn Sharda provided the finishing flourish with an unbeaten 25 off 10 balls. Chasing 103 in this rain-curtailed encounter demanded fearless batting and the Bashers delivered in style. After failing top order with 31/3, Ankit Kaushik and Taranpreet Singh launched a spectacular counterattack that left the Hawks bowlers with little room to recover. Ankit remained unbeaten on 37 off 15 balls while Taranpreet smashed a quickfire 39 not out from just 13 deliveries to surpass the given target with three balls to spare.

Earlier on Thursdya’s night the persistent and heavy rain forced the abandonment of the  fixture between Capital Strikers and Chandigarh Kings. Capital Strikers were strongly placed at 114/0 in 11 overs when play was halted. Openers Arjun Azad remained unbeaten on a blazing 70 off 38 balls while Nehal Pajni contributed an unbeaten 42 off 28 deliveries.
