When the monsoon season paints the world with vibrant hues, women’s faces light up with joy. With these very colors, customs, and traditions, the Hariyali Teej festival was celebrated with immense enthusiasm by the women of Sector 77 today.
This lively event was organized at a prominent hotel in Mohali by Rajinder Kaur of Chandigarh Diagnostic Lab, Gagan, Arshdeep Kaur, and Kiran. Around 42 women participated, making the event a vibrant success. Dressed in colorful Punjabi attire, green and yellow bangles, parandehs, and traditional jewelry, they performed Giddha with such spirit that it seemed as though the very soul of Punjabi culture was dancing.
The highlights of the event included glimpses of old traditions like Phulkari, churning butter (doodh-makkhan), using a traditional churner (madhani), and drawing water from a well (khuan). These activities served as a wonderful way to connect the new generation with their rich heritage. To make the festival even more colorful, activities like a Punjabi quiz, games, a ramp walk, and the selection of the festival queen were organized. Preeti, Swarn Kaur, and Sama Mahajan won the title of ‘Teej Ki Rani’ with their outstanding presentations. This event further strengthened the bonds of mutual understanding, camaraderie, and pride in heritage among the women.
