
Haryana’s Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Anil Vij announced that 27 new modern bus queue shelters will be built in Ambala Cantonment to further strengthen local transportation. These shelters will be equipped with seating facilities for passengers, as well as fans and lights powered by solar energy. He also directed officers to ensure Volvo buses stop at Ambala Cantonment.
Vij chaired a meeting today with officers from various departments regarding development projects/works in Ambala Cantonment. During the meeting with the Transport Department and Municipal Council officials, he discussed the construction of the new shelters and issued guidelines.
He instructed that these shelters be constructed promptly and should include proper seating arrangements. The locations should be carefully chosen to ensure they do not obstruct traffic. Directions were also issued to the Ambala Cantonment DSP regarding traffic coordination. It is worth noting that Minister Vij had revived the local transport service in Ambala Cantonment last year after many years, and thousands of people are now benefiting from it. As part of this service, designated stops for local buses are being equipped with these new shelters.
*Volvo Buses to Stop at Ambala Cantonment – Vij*
During the meeting, Anil Vij emphasized that Volvo buses must have a stop at Ambala Cantonment, as thousands of passengers travel to and from this major bus terminal daily. Given its importance, Volvo buses from various states passing through should also make a stop here.
*Minister directs Cleaning of Drains Before the Monsoon*
Vij directed the Municipal Council and Irrigation Department officials to begin emergency-level cleaning of major drains before the rainy season. He specifically mentioned extensive cleaning of the Gudgudiya drain, ensuring proper water flow under the railway tracks near the station and cleaning of areas beyond the army and railway sectors.
He also ordered cleaning of the Mahesh Nagar drain, instructing both departments to clean their respective segments to avoid waterlogging during rains. He further directed that the functioning of the Mahesh Nagar pump house be checked to ensure it can effectively pump water into the Tangri River. The diversion drain and Babiyal pump house should also be inspected, he said.
*Stormwater Pipelines to Be Machine-Cleaned Before Rains – Vij*
Anil Vij instructed the Municipal Council to clean stormwater pipelines in Ambala Cantonment Sadar area using machines before the monsoon. He also directed early cleaning of the central drain. Officials assured him that the cleaning process would commence soon. Additionally, the minister directed the cleaning of 12 cross roads and other drains and said that local councillors should be involved during inspections and cleaning operations in their areas.
*Tangri Riverbed to Be Deepened – Instructions to Irrigation Department*
Vij instructed the Irrigation Department officials to complete excavation work in designated parts of the Tangri River before the rains. He directed that the riverbed be deepened and coordinated digging be done beneath the Ambala-Saharanpur railway line with railway authorities. He also directed cleaning of the concrete drain from Mahesh Nagar pump house to the Tangri River.
*Remove Electric Poles and Transformers from Roads – Vij*
During the meeting, Minister Vij discussed Rs. 38 crore project aimed at strengthening the electricity infrastructure in Ambala Cantonment. He instructed the Energy Department to remove old electric poles and transformers that are located in the middle of roads. He also held detailed discussions with officials regarding other development activities and relevant issues.
